The Green Dream Team had an early start on Saturday morning to do The Fellsman. This is a 61mi/11,000ft climb race that includes Ingleborough & Whernside in the first 10miles! Carrying plenty of gear, we set off as a team of 4 ‘The Lostockers’. We had great weather from the off. Clear blue sky, fantastic views with a mild nip in the wind on the tops. The plan was to get Mike round as a training run ahead of his BG attempt. Albert, Tony & myself have done this race on more than one occasion but for first timer Mike, it was a leap into the unknown. It became apparent to me 15miles into the race that something wasn’t right with my leg. I was putting massive effort in & getting little in return. The gap between me & the boys was growing & there was very little I could do. I made the decision to let them go & retire at the next checkpoint (20mi point). The descent into Dent was slow & uncomfortable, so the thought of another 41 miles made my decision feel justified. My race ended there, Im sure one of the boys will summarise their account of the remaining part. I got back to the event centre, saw the first runners finish then had a few hours sleep. I checked on the team’s progress & went out to meet them for the last half mile. So pleased to see them finish. A tough but rewarding race to finish due to distance, terrain, navigation, highs & lows! Well done The Lostockers!
Thanks for the write up, Josie!
