Latest Fell Championship Positions
August 12, 2011Its all hotting up in the fell championship with Hopey back from his knee injury and running like a gazelle at Pilgrims Cross. Anyone care to have a guess at his next injury?, well back?, shoulder?, nah we’ve not had an ankle injury for a while, my moneys on that!
In the overall championship (and also for the kiddies section) it is nip and tuck with Hopey and Rob neck and neck at 2 wins each, both however have to run the next 3 races to get there 6 race quota in.
The V40 section has already been won by Fast Mike who already has 5 wins to his name leaving Mark S and Checkers to fight it out for 2nd place.
Pete Noble also has to complete the final 3 races if he is to win the V50 section.
Pilgrims Cross fell race 2011
August 12, 2011Pilgrims cross fell race was my first race of my twelve enjoyable months so far as a fellrunner, so question is would i get a better result this time?
Six runners turned up on a wet and windy night representing lostock ac.so after registration a short walk up the lane to the start.this is allways a nerveous time for me and i was thinking the thirty five mile bike ride the day before could affect my performance.
After we had all shared our excuses and injurys which could affect performances we set off as a group we where all quite near the front and Adrian set off like he meant business and was soon away. I didnt see mark the bullet start, but could see Mark S just infront so i thought push on, at what felt like a fast pace and see how it goes.
The start is tricky as your running over slippy york stone flags and cobbles, you soon hit open moorland and the conditions were wet and boggy nice just how we like it. I was heading in the direction of peel tower and it felt just as hard as last year if not harder as i was trying to catch Adrian who seemed to be having a good run, then Tom passed me so i tryied to keep up with both them, so i just hung on hoping that they might tire.
Tom went over on his ankle but was able to limp on, so after checking he was ok i pushed on looking to steal our fell captains crown, however (here come the excuses) my legs are really starting to feel it now and could see Adrian just starting to pull away on the last climb so time to dig deep. A fast desent over those slippy flag stones again and down the lane to the finish.
I didnt catch adrian but i did have a good fast run and managed to beat last year time by nine mins.

Crow Hill Reverse
August 4, 2011I’ve been mostly injured since April, but the beginning of July saw me make a steady start back at getting some miles in. Thought it was time to test how mended I am. So I took the legs racing on Tuesday night. The Crow Hills Reverse fell race in Mytholmroyd, organised by Mills Physio with all proceeds to an Ovarian Cancer charity.
The legs made it through without injury, but, did not thank me for the experience. There are normal hills and then Calderdale hills. Straight up a wall of almost death. And straight back down. Almost 5 miles in 54 minutes 16 seconds. 64/71. Quite possibly the hardest, short race I’ve ever done. Fun though! Full results here. A very friendly race, well organised and marshalled and a good turnout in the pub afterwards. One to add to the list of races worth doing.
I reckon I’m sufficiently fit to start making it out again on Wednesday nights for club training.

Iron Man Ray
August 2, 2011
My intention this year was to do the Bob Graham but after having my worse ever year of injuries I decided, after receiving a lot of advice from experienced runners (you know who you are), to leave it for another year. In May, I was forced to take a four week break from running because of a bad foot injury and so went back to cycling with Dave and John, who were preparing for the 2011 UK Iron Man. (more…)

We had 9 Lostock runners at the last championship race Bull Hill, lets see if we can beat this and maybe have a few female runners? The race is no harder than the a Wednesday Lostock training night run, so come on give it a go!

Coniston Country Fair – Sunday 24th July
July 26, 2011Checkers had told me about this race which is held as part of the Coniston Country Fair a traditional Cumberland summer fair whith lots to do for the family. £6 to enter the summer fair – fell race is free. Lots of stalls selling toffee, cake, juice and home made Cider! beautiful. Kids games Potato on a spoon race, space hopper, sack race, then tug-o-war, wrestling, lots of dog shows / displays and a fell race. Just before the start i saw Mike who had brought his family up for a day out and then Checkers – so 3 amigos from Lostock again! so much for a casual jaunt up to the Old Man and back.
