Lostock Christmas do

December 3, 2011

A brilliant night was had by all on Friday, 2nd December as Lostock AC descended on the DeVere Whites venue for their Christmas Party Night.

It was difficult to recognise some of our members as we’re not used to seeing each other out of running or camping gear !!  All I can say is that the men scrubbed up well and the ladies looked extremely glamorous.  (I was a little concerned last Wed night when David Wilcock asked me if it would be o.k. to dress in overalls and wellies- thankfully he also looked very presentable).

Food was consumed, drinks were flowing and the dancing commenced.  The theme for the night was Motown and the tribute group, based on the Three Degrees, were excellent, although the drink had kicked in by then and I think we’d have thrown ourselves around the dance floor even if it had been Chaz and Dave on stage!  Most of us had a really good workout, perhaps we should add some of the moves into the warm-up on a Wednesday night?

GREAT NIGHT

Chris

Sunday 27th November – Dave Staff Fell Race

November 27, 2011

Last race in the Lostock Fell Racing season.

A fresh blustery day a little cooler than recent, but a nice sunny day at greeted 7 of us at Sunnyhurst Woods, this race is always enjoyable even if your not really up for it, as I was last year. Probably something to do with the Ozone, Robert Sharkey turned up, and we were soon winding him up and putting the pressure on. Saying things like you’ll be first back then.

Dave Staff Fell Race – Sunday 27th Nov 11:30

November 22, 2011

Sunday sees the next and last fell race in the Lostock Fell Race 2011 competition. This is a 5 mile race and is probably one of the easier fell races on the calender on trails around Darwen Tower. Any roadies fancy a go?

Saturday 19th November – Full Tour of Pendle

November 21, 2011
After last years race, I couldn’t understand why people didn’t take a more direct route to CP7 at Mearley Clough – it should be a little bit shorter, but more importantly, an oblique line across the steep hillside should be much more runnable than the very steep descent down the ridge. So I went out and reccied it, armed with garden canes and duct tape (I removed them all afterwards) and worked out a cracking line.

Saturday 13th Nov – The Roaches

November 21, 2011

Mark persuaded me that this was a race worth doing, having an AGM for Achille Ratti on the Saturday in the Lakes, did cause me to sacrifice an evening in the pub and return home for the race the following day. This race had everything mud, manure and more mud it also crossed farm fields, moorland, gritstone edges forests and river crossings, I say crossings due to the second half of the race returning back the same way, this did help on removing the mud and manure though. Overall a good event.

No 157 Mark Checkley 3.16.46
No 166 Peter Noble 3.21.14

Pete Noble

had a fairly OK run started a little slow
Pete Noble turned up he led the way for the first half
I got going after the river crossing and had a good middle section where I passed Pete just before the summit of Shuttlingsloe. However on the last part of the climb going back over the Roaches just before the top I had what you would call a hitting the wall experience. I just ground to a halt got really frustrated as about 10 runners just steamed passed me. I could do nothing about it
Anyway got going again and began to reell one or two runners in on the down hill but after the MUDDY!! fields the last stile I cramped up and promptly lost one of the places I had just gained. all I could do now was just slogg it out to the finish
No record breaking times but not disastorous Just over 3hrs 16

The only downside to the evening was the lack of our usual pastie and peas, your Chairman must have had a momentry lapse of memory. SORRY!

357 runners

Good conditions for running yesterday, dry, no wind but as always with this race – lots of mud. Mark Liptrot was parked in pole position right outside the pub, he must have been up at the crack of dawn to get that position – in tow were a couple of his Road Runners from St Helens. Further down the road was Checkers listening to his heavy music psyching himself up and right behind him the main man himself, Hopey.
We had a warm-up then stood about talking then Gill Caldwell arrived – and on the last minute (but not quite late) as usual Pete Noble. There were more runners than ‘normal’ so the race start was delayed by 10 mins. (more…)
