Winter Hill fell race
February 17, 20101st race in the Lostock AC Fell calendar.
2 Lostock runners raced last Sunday in the 11 mile Winter Hill race which starts / finishes behind the top barn and includes 5 climbs of Winter Hill from various directions.
There were approx. 200 runners starting this race on a cold but dry morning, almost ideal running conditions as a lot of the boggy sections would be frozen, hence the potential for fast times.
Mark Shuttleworth had the run of his life and came in 102nd in 2:10:08. This time compared with 2:20:01 last year showed that the conditions made fast times possible but could also show that he is finally showing signs of getting faster… it is also possible that his fast time was due in part to a new drink that he has recently discovered……..Guinness.
Allan Jones came in 168th in a time of 2:31:15, which was a good time considering he had only come back off holiday on the Friday before the race and had obviously been on a San Miguel diet.
The winner broke the course record by 3 minutes in 1:26:54.
