Wednesday 11th August – Pilgrims Cross Fell race
August 12, 2010Sticky and Slippy
A good turn out from Lostock – 6 Fell runners - on a wet and breezy night.
A very slippy start up the Gritstone??? slabbed path Racers slipping and stumbling all over the place, which led to a slowish start which suited all of us as we didn’t do a long enough warm up.
We were soon out onto the moor heading for the Peel Tower leaping over the bog holes with Mark S leading the way and Mark C close behind.
Then the first downhill section where Mark C took a tumble and got some verbal from Tony Varley, Mark S was away now right out infront.
Into the wind now along a very narrow trod along the edge of the Hill which was difficult if you were behind a slower runner.
Then the pull up to the cross?? and on to Bull Hill summit more bog hole leaping and sticky mud.
The descent was really good, rough and nice sticky mud to soften the impact, Jason caught Mark C up close to the bottom.
Bit of race on here.
A shortish gradual climb where Mark C got back in front of Jason, but when we hit the gritstone?? slabbed lane Jason just pulled away
It was quite a terrifying descent, just the tarmac section to the finish
First in was Mark S of course!! Pos 77 52:28

A good race by all, had a stitch from half-way which just got worse especially when we hit the tarmac run in, i knew that Middleton lady was just behind but managed to hang on.
