Rivington half marathon

October 7, 2011

The Rivington half took place on the hottest start to an October since the year dot. It was already 23 degrees when I parked the car at Rivington school the morning of the race. I met up with 4 friends, none of whom are members, (I’ve tried to recruit them but to no avail) Basically, the route started and finished at the school with the 1st mile going up in the direction of the pike before dropping down to the ressies all the way up to White Coppice, down the other side of Anglezarke res then back to the school. I wanted to get a time around 2:15:00 ish but I really struggled in the heat (28 degrees at the finish) and finished with a time of 2:25:52 which I was quite disappointed with. All my friends beat me, including one who is a smoker and only did one 4 mile training run leading up to the race which was a bit soul destroying, he beat me by a minute, my 2 other friends finished in approximately 2:05 and 2:15. I hope next year it is cooler and it pees down so I can get the time I hoped for.

Paul “Speedy”

Maggie Slamin also ran and finished in 2.18.39
