Pilgrims Cross – Wednesday 15th August

Pilgrims Cross fell race

Mike Ernill & Myself went to Helmeshore for this relatively easy 6 mile feill race. This was as muddy as it gets anywhere, initially i was dodging the mud but i soon realised that it was a waste of time and i just ploughed thru it all, wife will sort the socks out! The race is a mixture of trail and fell – all runnable with only 2 small steep descents ideal for Mudclaws with a finish down a slippy stony track and then tarmac run in. I had been runnin the night before so i took it easy on the outward section then felt better on the return and set about catching some runners infront, had a good time on the descents with Mudclaws coming into their own and a good run in, i think i should do a 3 mile warm-up before these ‘short’ races – i seem to be half way round before i get going. Great to get one last night run in before my hols – when i get back the dark nights are drawing in and its only a matter of time before the headtorches are out again. Albert and Tony were also there, Albert choosing to run along with his wife rather than race.

Have done this race 3 times now and each time my finish time has improved. Will have to dig deep next year and keep it going.
