After a cold, wet start the evening warmed up and everyone worked very hard to improve their PB’s,

Julian, who won the event last year, did it again even though I tried to set him a tough h/cap, he ran really well following up on his great 16th place in the Pike Race. There was a lot of rivalry going on especially between the farmers. When all the competitors and marshals were safely back we presented the prizes to first three men and women. My sincere thanks goes to all the members and relatives who turned up to marshal, these were — Sue, Jo, Emma, Paul, Carolyn and her daughter, Sheila, her daughter Georgie and granddaughter, Chris and Kath. We also had a spectator for the early stages, this being Jason. Yours truly remained at the start/finish area cold and wet doing all the recording.

Leo, who originated the event, sent his apologies for not being there with his usual band of helpers, this is due to his wife Freda being poorly and in hospital at the moment. I am sure that you are all with me in sending our Best Wishes to Freda and hope she recovers very soon.

John

Chairmans handicap-he sets me off AFTER Mike who was on a proper off-road bike and is doing more Ironman training than you can shake a stick at and Rob ‘the dude’ Sharkey who again was on an off-road bike and is much faster than me running on the shorter runs!!
He needs to sort his timing out that Chairman instead of counting all his money.
No doubt if Hopey and Mark L had been there they too would have been set-off before me!!

Oh dear. Mark S is grumpy because he got run over by a moped.
Huge thank you to all the people who orginised and marshalled. It was bad enough to cycle/run/cycle in that weather but to stand still in it must have been horrible.

The old saying goes A poor workman blames his tools
But in this case I dont have the right tools for the job!!! as my run shows I was the 3rd fastest runner thats a good positive to take home even after being the last one in I dont really do biking I dont have the nerve or the right bike
it is a good workout though
I felt terrible at the end but after looking at the results I feel better
Thanks to all who marshelled on a rubbish weather night and to John who organised it all

Really sorry that I couldn’t make this. Just back from holiday so a bit out of touch – I only realised it was the duathlon on the day. I rushed home from work and on the way home I was trying to make the decision between hard tail or full suspension bike; do I go for clip-in pedals or flats. If I use clip in pedals can I run in my mountain biking shoes or will I have to change? If I use flats I can ride in my running shoes but I won’t be able to ride downhill as fast.
But when I got home my Mrs greeted me with “Should we go out for a run tonight?” Or rather her agonised stagger which masquerades as a run. So, game over.

Anyway, what I really would have liked is to have seen the look on Mark S’ face when I turned up all kitted up on my super light weight mountain bike! Can’t wait for next year!

Well done everyone – it looked like a good turn-out. And sorry again for not turning up – especially to all the marshalls.
