2 Lads Fell Race – Thursday 16th June

June 16, 2011
A good turn out 200 + runners with six from Lostock who were well supported enroute by other non running members.
A warm evening with just the threat of a dodgy shower. Oh!! that  could have been the Lostock team.
A very fast competetive start with Mark C me!! shooting off as usual. Rob our youngest member soon reeled me in and was away.
The climb up Factory Hill was just horrible Mike tried to sneek past I was’nt going let him pass this early.  Now for a chance to get back in front, Mike joined the que up the alley while Me and Mark S pegged it up the slightly longer route up the road. I left Mark behind  as Mike and me were racing each other going up through the woods.  Mike came out back in front although only a short distance.
Unfortuantly it very slowly got bigger.  By the time we reached Two Lads I was losing sight of Mike, just had to keep going.  Had to make sure I stayed in front of Mark S, especially after his remarks. One year older, one years more experience thats what I say, all that running down the stony path in the dark I knew exactly where to put my feet.
However I nearly lost it coming into the finish I zig zagged the last 50m through the long grass Oh! and round the tree nearly giving Tom a chance to beat me over the finish line.
Our last runner in was Mark Sammon, who we hadn’t realised that he had entered.

67 Rob Smith            41:29

94 Tom Smith            43:50

Great write-up again Checkers, i couldn’t keep up with the near V50 demon, struggled all the way, even the downhills!. Have to put some secret training in or drink more Guinness.

I don’t know if I was sweating so much because of the warm weather or just the fact that I could feel a long over due win over YOUNGER brother Tom coming on. I’m paying for the two races in a week though now! My left calfs got a date on the couch with an ice pack. Well done everybody. Good run by all..
