Wednesday 4th April – Fell GroupApril 8, 2012
This week with the longer days we had the prospect of a full headtorchless run, to ensure this Albert & Mark Sa didn’t bother to bring theirs. 8 of us in total – 6 younguns Albert, Mark Sa, Mark C, Mark S, Mike, Speedy and 2 olduns Allan & Colin wound our way up thru Wilderswood to Georges lane where the olduns headed for the Pike while the rest ambled up to the water tank in the cold and very strong headwind, conditions were somewhat different to last week which was like summer. We headed off for some shelter round the quarries and then down to Burnt Edge and some trails before emerging further round on the back end of the 2 Lads course, then again into the headwind to follow the mast road all the way up to the top of the ramp just so Albert could take a picture. Running back down the mast road was easy with the wind behind us following Albert who took us off road as if we were going to 2 Lads on the Hendersons End route but in the fading light veered off to pick up the track to the dog hotel then thru the fields to Ormstons Farm. He then headed right and somehow we ended up at the back of the estate and dog poo alley. Checkers made his customary finishing sprint but i was having none of it and headed him off just before the Bridge.
Almost 8 miles covered on this very windy night and without a headtorch – only just. Its the Duathon next week but after that we can look forward to some longer daylight runs.
