Club History
Several years ago, well nearly 20, one of our more hardworking committee members and long time runner, namely Mel Mckenna took it upon himself to collate as much information as he could find on the history of Athletics undertaken at the Lostock site, under the De Havilland, Hawker Siddeley and British Aerospace banners. He brought it up to date to include the race results and social events partaken by the then newly formed BA Lostock Athletics club, later to become our own much loved Lostock AC when the social club and sports facilities were taken away from us.
Many hours were spent by Mel retrieving old factory news sheets, some going back to the 1930′s and 40′s, as well as race results and photographs from fellow club runners, then typing them up in some sort of historical order to include various road, fell and cross country races from all over the country.
Unfortunately as all this was produced before the home computer revolution all this information sat in a folder in Mel’s desk with no one able to see the good work that he had done, until one bright day with the introduction of all singing all dancing scanners at the current factory at Lostock, Mark S with the help of Adrian, our two computer whizz kids are able to present this history to you show how it all started.
Please feel free to download the history of Lostock AC.
Geof
John Smith has unearthed some old copies of Lostock AC news, these appear to be what the early Lostock AC members produced inorder to let other club members know what was going on in the club obviously before the internet was invented.
