-
(i) 8 races of approx. 6 mile – Belmont Winter Hill, 2 Lads, Tockholes, Bull Hill, Harrock Hill, Shepherds Skyline, Dave Staff & Mytholmroyd.
These shorter races could be viewed as good entry races into the sport of fell running and could be attempted by almost any club runner – even a Roadie.
Belmont Winter Hill is a short race but with plenty of climb! there is a small village fair with stalls and Morris Dancers!. Sally did this last year – her 1st fell race – and won a prize!!!
-
The 2 Lads race is run from the Bridge in Horwich on a Thursday night and so doesn’t get more local than that, wots more it is always a nice night.
-
Bull Hill is a good local night race run from the Waggon & Horses at Hawkshaw and usually in very good weather and there are chip butties in the pub after.
-
Harrock Hill is essentially a trail race and ANYONE could give this a go. It is run from the Farmers Arms near Parbold.
-
Shepherds Skyline is a muddy affair but Gill Caldwell ran this last year in all the mud and it didn’t put her off.
-
Dave Staff again is a local race that is well attended on wot is normally a cold December morning. Gill Caldwell ran this last year and enjoyed it despite the cold.
-
(ii) 3 longer races of between 9 – 12 miles, Winter Hill, Heptonstall and Grin & Bear It. These races are not for the novice runner and previous experience of fell running can be required as an entry requirement.
