Trail Run Wed. 31st August.
September 4, 2011Tonight we welcomed Clive back from his summer retreat on Anglesey and also we got back to our normal sessions after the last 2 weeks at other events away from the Leisure Centre. Off we went across Church St, down Bull brew, along the new tracks to and up Mill Lane, up to Walsuches via Gingham, here the quicker group split off and went round the lodges and regrouped on Georges lane from here we all went up to the Pike, here we witnessed a brilliant sunset, the slower group went straight back down with Clive and Geof led the others a merry dance through the Bunks via the Pigeon tower, continuing down the ramp and back to base via back Pennine road, DS alley and Bridge St.
Another good session completed.

Trail Run Wed. 10th Aug 2011
August 11, 2011There were a few members away at a Fell Race but we still had a group of 20 who braved the rain to train, Clive still away at his Summer home on Anglesey, so after I had made some announcements Geoff led the warm ups. We set off through Horwich turning up Dryfield and left off here along the track below football pitches towards Rivington, we split up here (and here lies a tale) the quicker ones head to the castle and the others continuing along the track as far as the road ( they did not stop much to Geoffs ire), consequently when the quick group, less Allan, arrived at the road there was no-one else to be seen. It was decided to head on to the village and hope they appeared there, they did not, at least whilst we were there. ( it was discovered later that we missed each other by abour 30secs)
We carried on scouring the tracks aimlessly looking for or lost group before returning to base via tigers clough and Foxholes road. After waiting anxiously at base for the others to return. They finally came in having gone to Pike looking for us. It should be noted that this is the first time we have had a communiction breakdown, and steps will be taken to ensure that it does not happen again (pagers have been mentioned, Ha! Ha!) Come back Clive.

Trail Run Wed. 27th July 2011.
July 29, 2011After an exhausting week in Kirkby Lonsdale doing the School run with my grandchildren Ethan and Lauren it is good to get back and have a nice relaxing run around Rivington, so after our usual prelims etc we set off towards the High School via DS alley, back of Pennine road and Tigers Clough, the faster group adding a loop up towards the pine forest and down the concrete run passing Thompsons farm meeting up at the clough, from here we followed our trail race route for a while before cutting up into the Chinese gardens, again the group split and I took the quicker ones on up passing top barn through to the car parks beneath pigeon tower here taking the ramp up through the gardens passing under “seven arches” and eventually meeting up with the rest on the Pike, and by chance the fell group appeared there as well. Leaving the pike behind we followed a pair of expensive very brightly coloured trail shoes down via Georgies lane before going right down the fields to meet up with and follow the Duggie back to Tigers clough and return to base by the way we came. As usual there was plenty of good banter whilst we were running and this is what makes our session so much fun. As a side note the brightly coloured trail shoes will soon be off to the Pyranese doing a 100mile race with their owner Albert Sunter, we wish them well.

Trail Run Wed. 6th July 2011
July 13, 2011After being away on Hols for the last two weeks it was great to see so many attending this session, inc some more new members, 31 people took part. Clive informed me that there were 35 the week previous. After stretching session we split off into our usual groups fell and trail. The trail group went off up the Old road, up through Arcon village with the quicker group going further round via Curleys fisheries up onto Georgies lane, from here we continued along towards the Pike, again the quick group split off up 2 lads ramp and alongside wall to kennels, meeting up with rest on Pike. We returned via Georgies lane and Factory hill. Apart from the heavy rain and getting thoroughly soaked it was good to be back.

Wed 6th July – Fell group
July 10, 2011My first run with the club for almost 2 months due to injury, been looking forward to a nice summers night run.
11 of us left the leisure centre and headed up dog shit alley, Wilderswood, and then on to Two Lads, from here we picked up the Winter Hill fell race route across to the shooting hut, then up past the reservoir on route to Dean Ditch, this is where Albert and a few others including a new runner, another Mark, took a diversion to Whimberry Hill, the rest of us headed up Dean Ditch in wet conditions.
Reaching the the top of the ramp we hung on for 10mins waiting for Albert and co, but it was too cold, after all it is July! We headed past the mast and picked up the boundary wall to Two Lads then dropped down via Wilderswood to the leisure centre.
A very nice 8 miles done and great to be back out on Winter Hill with friends.

June 6, 2011A warm dry sunnny evening.
We all set off together up Chorley Old Road, Ray said he was going with the roadies then once he got to Gingham Brow changed his mind, he was in road shoes.
We then switched back along footpath I had’nt used before and came out higher up Factory Lane. We followed the usual route up to Two Lads.
We then followed the Two Lads race route in reverse. Where I had noticed a stile I hadn’t used before. It was neat little short cut along the edge of the woods although it prooved slow to run it. We then carried along the lane passed the farm to the begining of the Smithills shooting hut track which we then followed all the way up to the trig. Ray thought we would follow the Winter Hill fell race route down, But Pete thought we were running to Noon Hill And promptly took off so Me Ray and Rob followed in his wake, poor Ray in his road shoes struggled on this section.
Once down on Georges Lane I had another bright idea about following a different route down. Instead of going down the left side of the woods we went down the right side it is actually a good way down.
After that it was straight forward run back following the trails at the back of the top barn
I slowed right up and took my time thinking of Ennerdale as our easy 6 mile run turned into an easy 10 mile run?
